So I recently stumbled upon a video of Ms. Tracee Ellis Ross telling the world why she loved her hair as a call for a #hairlove campaign.

I’ve been watching a lot of hair videos lately: how to style, hair journeys, etc, and I ran across this one. For whatever reason–maybe because I’ve got all this extra time on my hands or maybe because I’m trying to live life more boldly–I decided I wanted to make a video explaining why I love my hair.

My natural hair journey is part of me as a mixed person. I wouldn’t have the hair I do if I wasn’t mixed-race. Tracee, along with a few other Youtube and Instagram stars, have really helped me embrace my natural hair, and essentially, a piece of who I am holistically.

I’ve always loved the song “I Am Not My Hair” by India Arie. She’s got a great message in it, and I support it 100 percent. But now, maybe, I think I am my hair…but in a different way. My hair doesn’t solely define who I am, but rather, it’s one element of the wholeness that is Michelle Conerly.

So here’s the debut! Enjoy my contribution to the #hairlove campaign, and let’s keep the conversation going!
